Q. What news servers should I use?
A. Our main news server is bignews.usenetmonster.com.
Q. Are headers free?
A. Yes.
Q. What happens if I run out of downloads
before my next months billing
A. At any time you run out of downloads
you can purchase additional gigs by logging in to our
user interface and clicking on "Purcase More Gigs".
This is a one time charge.
Q. My ISP limits my downloads / speed on port
119. Do you offer other another port I can connect on?
A. Yes. We offer ports 20, 23, 53, 80, 119, 443, 2000, 8080, 9000, 9001, and 9002. We also support SSL on port 563.
Q. Do you accept check / debit cards as payment?
A. Yes. Enter the info just like you
would a credit card on our newsgroups
sign up form.
Q. How does your billing show up on
my credit card?
A. Our billing will show up as www.UsenetMonster.com
Q. Do you keep log files of reading
and posting activities?
A. Lots of newsgroup providers boast
about not keeping log files of your reading activities.
While technically, this may be true, it's pretty misleading.
We log all posts so that we can trace them back if needed due to spamming or posting of illegal content, but this information is not presented publicly (in the headers) of articles that you post. Additionally, we do log activity on servers at various times, mostly for debugging, and the logs rotate automatically every few days.
Q. Do you share my personal information
with anyone?
A. Your private information is never
shared with anyone. 99% of the people that work for
this company can't even get access to it. Most of the
spam you get is probably due to the fact that your email
address is being sold by companies you've done business
with on the Internet. The selling of information is
big business. All you need to do is look in your Inbox
to see that. Here at Usenet Monster we refuse to profit
from your personal information. We pledge never to sell
or distribute your personal information to a third party
in any way.
Q. How many concurrent connections
am I allowed?
A. Limited accounts (30)!
Unlimited accounts also allow (30)
Q. Why do you guys only carry 75,000
newsgroups when other providers carry 120,000+
A. We carry all groups that have seen activity in the last few years; our software automatically adds groups as they become active and expires most inactive groups. If you want other newsgroups that haven't been added for some reason, just let us know!
Q. What happens when I reach my download
limit?
A. You will no longer be able to download
from the news server. You will need to purchase more
Gigs to continue downloading.
Q. Do Rollover Gigs Ever expire?
A. No. As long as you keep your account
active they will not expire.
Q. How do I know when I'm getting low
on Gigs?
A. Log into the user section and you'll
see your Gig balance on the right hand side under "My
Account". We also have an email notification system.
To enable it click on "System Notifications"
in the user section. Make sure "Low on Gigs"
is checked and you will be emailed when you get below
the specified amount.
Q. You don't carry my favorite newsgroup.
Can you add it?
A. Sure we can. Just click on the
newsgroup request link in the user section.
